OER Commons is a freely accessible online library that allows to search and discover open educational resources (OER) and other freely available instructional materials.

How to

Resources on the site can be searched and filtered using an expanded set of descriptive data, including conditions of use. The "metadata" are enriched by the users when they tag, rate, and review materials, and share what works for them. Submit function allows to “recommend a resource from the web”. The following data need to be inserted:

  • the URL of the resource,

  • Title, Description, Authors and the CreativeCommons license with which it is issued, or the indication that it is of Public domain.

  • Information such as: the language, the reference content domain, the type of teaching material, the reference users, ..

It is also possible to create educational resources directly on the site.

  • Resource builder makes it easy to combine text, pictures, sounds, files, and video, and save them as openly licensed educational resources. The created resources can be saved and downloaded as a PDF.

  • Lesson Builder (for K-12) & Module Builder (for Higher-Ed) allow authors to create both student and teacher facing content views. Lessons consists of sequenced tasks, which can incorporate a step-by-step approach to learning. Each task can have associated resources available for download.
