Help for the elderly people during the Covid crisis

According to our partner company, Prompt-H Ltd's Erasmus + project, Grandis XXI, which received  Award for Quality from Tempus Public Foundation, we can use a useful "independent technology" that helps the elderly to live independently in their own homes, increases their sense of security. and provides an opportunity to remain socially active members of the community. These are:

  • Sensors - used for monitoring purposes
  • Detectors, alarms - for detecting extraordinary events and calling for help
  • Communication tools - for consultation (including video devices)
  • Smartphone applications - reminder functions, managing health conditions
  • Specialized devices with internet connection - measuring data and forwarding them to health care professionals

Since most seniors now have a smartphone, we offer two options for their family members that make it easy for them to use the most important features.

Customizing the phone screen

In case of Android phones, we have the option of installing the so-called "special launcher" that allows to change the look of the opening screen, e.g. we can place the most commonly used icons, which are also larger than usual, so they can be easily handled by the elderly as well. One such app is Simple Launcher, which can be downloaded for free from the Play Store.

A smartphone designed for seniors

The Doro 580 Mobile Phone is a splash proof, easy to use mobile phone with simplified keypad for easy handling. It has GPS localisation and some practical features like a fall detector and a safety timer.

The Doro Mobile Phone was designed to give peace of mind to older people and their relatives and carers. It has four speed dial keys, each programmed with the number of a reliable person, who can be called with one simple press. It is durable, splash proof and just chunky enough for a firm grasp.

Its assistance button and a safety timer can automatically dial up and send an SMS alarm to the preset numbers, along with GPS localization so that carers can locate the older person who has the phone.

One of the advantages of the Doro is the automatic alert if the holder falls or hasn't moved for a defined period of time, making it a useful tool for older people living alone.

Customizing an easy-to-use device or phone designed for them makes it much easier for seniors to communicate, which is especially important against feeling isolated due to the epidemic.
